The Basics

Before going through the rest of the page, here are some technical and basic things to know about the site.

Purposes and Aims

This site was not built for no reason. Rather, it serves the following purposes:

  • to serve as a record of my personal writing discretions,
  • to house a gallery of my growing number of digital artwork,
  • to be of use to people by being an inspiration for them, and
  • to basically be my general personal site.

Why "Monolog"

I've been a fan of grayscale colors and monochrome ones. Gray and one-hued colors used in a good way always catch my fancy. And this led me to name my first site Grayscale. I also associate this word to me, my emotions and my *cough* uniqueness. So what's the connection of Grayscale and Monolog?

You see, I used to have this tridium of sites with the prefix "mono" on them, (Monologue, Monochrome, Monograph) and I named them like so because of some reasons. One of them is that I wanted to give honor to Grayscale, my first site, and I did so by attaching the said site's literal and figurative oneness and individuality through the prefix "mono" which also signified the same spirit. This is now the connection of these sites to their predecessor. Another reason would be the fact that I wanted a sort of a naming system to go with my sites, and it was done again through the said suffixing. Surprisingly, it also served my desire for fancy while having the said smooth-sailing system of naming. After coming with this, I was very much pleased with the said idea up until one dilemma surfaced.

It came to a point that I lost the time to handle the said number of sites. And to adjust to the time constraint, I decided to simply maintain one, for the other 2 sites already echoed content that is much more suitable for my blog. And having minor contents, they were less of a priority. Having these reasons, I decided to merge my portfolio with my blog and close my designs site.

Out of the the 3 names, Monologue Journal was the one who craddled the new merging of the sites, since, as said, it is the site that the portfolio would be merging into. But then, with the word "Journal" on the said site name, it still did not present the exact variety that the new site suggests, so the said word was omitted. And to show a complete reborn of the site without affecting the soul it had 'til then, the current name, Monologue, was tweaked to Monolog which is another form of the said word.

We now arrive at our current site name Monolog: a personal site back-boned by the fusion of a journal and a portfolio!

Historical Rundown

The site has gone a long run from Grayscale to Monolog. I switched servers and names just to get to where I am now. Here's the rundown of the events and "historical" happenings that occured in the development of the site.

  1. Started Grayscale Blog, hosted on Geocities.
  2. Got hosted by the ever so generous Sora.
  3. Switched name to Monologue Journal.
  4. Switched name to Monolog and merged portfolio with the journal, and now considered as a personal site.

Current Version

This is Version 2, Beauty Returns. PHP, CSS, and XHTML codings were all done in Notepad by me. The layout was tested in a 800x600 screen resolution. Browsers used for viewing are Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
